Experimenting with eternal truths generates faith and trust in the Divine. That in turn puts one in the flow of grace. This blog chronicles the results of an experiment on Affirmations, taken up by members of the Ananda Delhi Healing Group. Very interesting read.

Being devotees of the line of Ananda Sangha Gurus, we’re actively engaged in healing prayers for the world and those who are in need of such energy.

Affirmations are an important tool in our “healing toolkit” and we have a number of very powerful affirmations contained in the two books, Scientific Healing Affirmations and Affirmations for Self-Healing.

Truths are Verifiable: Our Experiments With Affirmations

Truth can be recognised as truth only if it stands the test of verification. True to the scientific approach to spirituality, which is the hallmark of truth seekers, we felt we should try out an experiment.

We decided to pick an affirmation and religiously work on it for a week, the idea being to practice it before one goes to sleep and immediately on waking. One can also practice it more often such as during the day, but the standard pattern is to undertake the affirmation definitely twice in the day, i.e., just before sleeping and just after waking. The rationale is that this will impregnate both the subconscious and the superconscious mind in such a manner, that the aspirant is able to generate the magnetism for manifesting the effect for which the affirmation is made.

We got two very good case studies.

One was on the effect of the affirmation on Success, and the other on the effect of the affirmation on Love, both chosen from Swami Kriyananda’s book, Affirmations for Self-Healing.

I had undertaken the affirmation on Success, being the first in the book. The first night I had been sort of unprepared, and I felt I had not been able to do it with the proper concentration. The morning after, I attended to the affirmation immediately upon waking, and before my mind had the time to get engaged with anything else. In addition to making the affirmation, I read the introduction to the concept of success and what impressed me strongly was the thought that transcendence is essential to success. Now you would agree that each one of us interprets transcendence according to what we find necessary to transcend. Whether we consciously identify any factor or not, the subconscious and the superconscious within each of us understand what has been holding us back from success.

I saw remarkable results through my week-long practice of the Success affirmation. The second morning, immediately upon completing the affirmation, I got an inspiring thought and was able to take it down right away. The thought came as a complete composition in itself, and there was a flow to it. The second morning I woke up very early and was able to meditate for a full hour. The third morning I felt inspired to write another piece and I did. The fourth morning again I found myself writing.

I was amazed, to say the least. It was as though the gates of some supportive power had been opened and there was a stream of inspiration and energy flowing within me from this invisible source. What is even more interesting is, that the flow did not cease with discontinuing the chanting of the affirmation, but continues to flow even ten days later, as I write this account.

As part of this experiment, another of us undertook the affirmation on Love, which is the second affirmation in the book. The affirmation itself reads, “I will love others as extensions of my own Self, and of the love, I feel from God”

She shared with us that the affirmation affected her such that it would play itself in her mind whenever she was free. When some workers came to the house and their work was unsatisfactory, which normally should have drawn sharp rebuke from her, she found that she was unable to feel angry or work up any anger against them. Her words were kind even when she was telling them their fault.
Thus, her observations too strongly indicated the efficacy of the practice of affirmations.

The Voice of the Great Ones

Here I am reminded of the words of Paramhansa Yogananda, where he says, “Words that are saturated with sincerity, conviction, faith and intuition are just like highly explosive vibration bombs, which, when let out, are sure to explode the rocks of difficulties and create the change desired.” He goes on to say. “Sincere words or affirmations repeated understandingly, feelingly, and willingly are sure to move the Omnipresent Cosmic Vibratory Force, and render you aid in your difficulty”.

Reflections on Affirmations

As I thought about this magical quality of affirmations, another truth suggested itself to me: Affirmations have a consciousness of their own. They are imbued with the power of manifestation. It is as though the affirmation has its own intelligence, for it removes obstacles, brings us into the possession of enabling wisdom, suggests solutions. In short, an affirmation is living and is committed to bringing about the truth that it spells out.

In the end, I would suggest that anyone who wants to change any situation or address a problem or change their manner of thinking should certainly give affirmations a wholehearted try.

Like all truths, spiritual ones too exhibit the quality of replicability. It is just that few seriously take up the idea of testing and verifying them .
    Glad you enjoyed it
