What is the workshop about?

This workshop is dedicated to spreading awareness about Ananda Chair Yoga.

Chair yoga is a seated practice on the chair which can make yoga accessible to many more people especially seniors and all those who find it difficult to get on the mat. Chair Yoga has all the components of a regular Ananda Yoga class—pranayama, warm-ups, asanas and meditation. The difference is that most of the practice is done while seated on a chair or using the chair as a prop.

According to a HelpAge India report, almost 9% of our population falls in the elderly bracket and by 2050 the number is estimated to rise to 20%. It is in fact our responsibility that we include our seniors in the yoga movement. Not only would they benefit physically but also derive immense mental and emotional benefits. And a healthy senior population means a healthy nation.

As more and more people discover the benefits of yoga, the practice is increasingly finding its way into the workplace. Simple movements and asanas done on a office chair can work wonders as they wipe away body pain, fatigue and tension and increase overall muscle strength and flexibility, keeping officegoers fresh and revitalized through the day.

As the adage goes–No matter what age we are, there is always that desire to feel our best so that we can live the life we want.
